“KIMSSHI — TOO MANY TO MENTION”
Most of you readers know that me, the writer of this blog, is the leader of this group. I chose our group to be featured for September because two of us (our maknae and I) celebrate our birthdays during this month.
I would not say anything to defend our group in this article. Instead, I would take you to a journey along with us. This is gonna be more than just a KIMSSHI portfolio. And you, the reader, might discover stuff about us that you have never known before.
Now, come with me as I dig upon how KIMSSHI started.
KIMSSHI was once a 4-member group, and used to just upload KPOP cover songs on Youtube, and get comments and compliments from our co-KPOP fans in different parts of the Philippines. July 11, 2009 was when we first got together as a group.
(from left: Cale, Angel, Marianne, Lourdes)
We didn’t start as friends like the previous groups I featured (Tuhtuh Girls and R-ME). Instead, I met the two other members (Marianne and Angel) in a computer shop near my school because I accidentally heard DBSK’s Wrong Number in their cellphone, The fourth member (Lourdes) was Marianne’s classmate. Later, she became a member of the Tuhtuh Girls.
April 25, 2010 — KIMSSHI as a three-member ballad group performed After School’s WITH U during the Iloilo Kpop Organization’s 3rd Gathering. During that time, we also released our first cover album (which was super low quality) and sold them for 20php each. That was fun and we did it for fun! Most of our first supporters bought the album as a souvenir.
what it is….

COMEBACK AFTER SEVEN MONTHS HIATUS
KIMSSHI came back after seven months and performed in the promotion of SUPER SHOW 3 in SM City Iloilo for an intermission number. But we came back with a different image. That’s when we started to get addicted with wigs and costumes.
(Look for KIMSSHI FANCAMs in Youtube to see our performance)
But that come back wasn’t easy. It was in SM City Iloilo where a lot of people who don’t know us watch then we failed on the notes. We even forgot to bring our CD for the instrumental so we tried singing acapella with a song of SUPER JUNIOR K.R.Y. That was awful!
TAKING THE OTHER ROAD
We had so much trauma from that comeback performance that we decided to pursue another road that we also love, and that is ANIME and JPOP.
Our first cosplay was the JPOP group PERFUME. November 27, 2010 — That is when we started to become a SING AND DANCE group instead of just doing ballads. We performed in all three sessions of a cosplay cafe singing five songs each session.
In Anigumi Joukai where we were much appreciated, our wounded hearts (from our comeback performance) healed, and that encouraging feeling motivated us to go further.
and so we cosplayed more…
KIMSSHI AND COSPLAY
As Orange Caramel
Angel as Touya Rima
Marianne as Kurenai Maria
Cale as Utau Hoshina
One of the most memorable moments iwas during before our performance in Anigumi Joukai’s Gamehouse Cosplay Clash when we were introduced as “One of the Best Cosplayers in Iloilo.” Whether that was sincere or not, that was very pleasant to hear and made our hearts fatter.
CHARITY WORKS AND COSPLAY EVENTS
Jollibee + SM Foodcourt KIDS Event
In here we performed CRUSHY CRUSHY by the POP GIRLS in our costumes to entertain the kids and their parents. We awere also the judges for the children’s costume contest. Later, our pictures were featured in Jollibee Jaro’s activities board.
We were invited not just to perform but be examples of modern and visual art in a lecture at West Visayas State University.
Halloween at Freddy’s Cafe
Along with other cosplayers of Anigumi Joukai (Cosplay Iloilo Guild), we were invited to make Freddy’s Cafe Halloween event aestheticaly meaningful. We sang English versions of 2NE1 songs with just one working microphone.
KIMSSHI AS A PERFORMANCE GROUP
People might have always asked, what group does KIMSSHI cover? Nowadays, this could be answered as: KIMSSHI covers D-Unit and Girls Generation TTS in Iloilo Kpop Organization.
But, KIMSSHI is not mainly a cover artist in Iloilo Kpop Organization. KIMSSHI is a performance group in Iloilo that aims to perform pop music in different genres such as KPOP, JPOP, ThaiPOP, TaiwaPOP, American POP and even PPOP.
2011 is a very lucky year for us. We did a lot of stuff. Offers to perform (paid and not), plus news articles kept coming. That was also the year when we felt so much loved by people in Cosplay and our performances (live or online).
FAILURES AND WORST PERFORMANCES
ANIME FULL HOUS
This was our first big performance in Anigumi Joukai, and we messed up again. This was during the days when we are just new in performing that we feel so nervous before, during and after the performance. We messed up three out of four songs that we sang during that day.
(Watch our FAILED Performances at KIMSSHI Facebook Fanpage Videos Album)
This was ONE-HELL OF A MEMORABLE PERFORMANCE. if you are an anti-fan and you were present during this event, you would have laughed with all your heart on how we forgot our lyrics on stage and still continued performing for professionalism sake. No, the mic wasn’t a problem nor wardrobe malfunctions, etc like our other performances, but just us forgetting our lyrics while singing 2NE1’s UGLY. We finished the whole performance with a mixed dance number of After School, Miss A, Rania, Hyuna and 2NE1’s I AM THE BEST. This performance reminded us that we are not the best after all.
The usual microphone malfunction that we always encounter made this performance for us, a SO-SO. We just came back from a four-month hiatus thinking that we won’t be able to perform again together and here it is, we practiced two-sing and dance numbers separately and ended up like this.
When you say FAILURE, we have A NUMBER of that. We are ashamed to tell everyone how we tried to do our best yet we failed to be chosen. Like how many television show auditions have we joined so far? But those failures didn’t stop us to do what we want, and do more than what we can do.
BEST AND PROUD PERFORMANCES
If there are failures, there are also performances that we feel proud of. Here they are:
We saw our progress from the day we started until today when we can’t be on stage together a lot. And those moments of failure and winning,? They made us stronger individually that we can now show everyone what each of us can do, not just as a group.
KIMSSHI also made parody (but serious) music videos uploaded in Youtube like the other previous groups that were featured. These music videos were directed and edited with the help of Jose Federico Chiu (my aspiring Indie Film Director friend).
There are two fanfictions that were written about KIMSSHI. One is of course the one that I wrote that was not yet finish until now WHEN YOU DREAM HIGH (which you can READ HERE. This fanfiction includes some people from Iloilo Kpop Organization of the current time.
And the other one was a horror drama written and formulated by Jose Federico Chiu and transcribed to paper by Marianne entitled 24 which you can also READ HERE.
24 includes members of TuhTuh Girls, kakkoi Boys and R-ME.

14. Another collaboration of Cale with Juni of EL!TE to cover 15&.
And a lot more collaborations with different Youtube cover artists that are too many to mention here. kk
As I mentioned, we’ve been thru a lot of failures and REJECTIONS from audition shows that are too many to mention once again. But, we also have our fair share of achievements.
JUDGES at CERTAIN EVENTS
For us, to be invited as judges, means they recognized our talents, capabilities and experiences that we are able give our objective comments and decisions.

Angel was one of tvN’s KPOP STAR HUNT 2 Philippines Top 17, while Marianne also got in the Eliminations Rounds out of the thousands who participated in the audition.

As people would say, “Everyone has their own time to shine.” We believed that we had our time. We wished that it would last for a long time. However, things do not lasts for long especially fame, According to King David, “Fame is just temporary.”
There were days when we had to show our smiles to everyone though we are exhausted and annoyed. There were days when we didn’t get to sleep just to present a very good performance. There were days when people appreciate us even if we did a lot of mistakes on stage.
But as time pass, and a lot came, though we can say we already left our footprint on the ground, everything changed.
Those smiles that we always contained faded. The supporters that always followed us disappeared. The cheers before, during and after our performances became obliterating silence, and the only thing remained was our fear to be judged by a failure performance or by a single mistake. This made us perfectionists of our own selves, compete with our own capacities trying to reach more than its limits, and drove us to not let go of what we had worked hard to attain.
People might not understand us for we hid into a shadow where we can utterly secure our space. However, despite that COLD image, that we don’t even exert effort to erase, are crazy odd girls who are just living happily after so much failures in a very long journey, yet still longing for success.
And we say..
IT IS NOT DONE.
WE ARE STILL KIMSSHI.
